Heliotropium (Heliotrope)

Heliotrope is a genus within the Borage family (Boraginaceae) and native from the Mediterranean to Africa and South America. They are mostly annual to biannual herbs, rarely perennial shrubs with quite large, hairy leaves and showy terminal flower spikes, which are elongating with time. For any rich, well drained soil in full sun.
Sow flat in spring on any rich well drained soil under frostfree glass. Transplant to the open garden after the last freezing in late spring, as most are not sufficiently frost resistant in Central Europe.
