Coccothrinax (Fan Palm)

Coccothrinax is the most diverse genus of palm species in the Caribbean, and it has a distributional hot spot in Cuba where most species are endemic to. All Coccothrinax are fan palms and have a high ornamental value. For any rich, fertile and well drained substrate in a sunny spot throughout the year. In winter reduce watering and keep plants at a minimum of some 15°C.
Sow seeds in any rich, well drained soil and keep substrate slightly moist but not wet. Store pots at some 25°C to 30°C. Seeds will germinate in some 6 weeks to 3 months.

120 (200)cm, Borhidi's Guano Palm is an exceptionally ornamental small species from costal areas in the Matanzas Province in Cuba, where it is critically endangered due to habitat loss. Coccothrinax borhidiana is a very slow growing species which can be perfectly grown in larger pots for many years. Its' dark green fan leaves are short stalked and will enclose the short and stout stem over time. For any rich, fertile and well drained substrate in a sunny spot throughout the year. In winter reduce watering and keep plants at a minimum of some 15°C. A very rare and highly desirable species.
