Astartea & Chamelaucium (Wax-Flower)

Astartea and Wax-Flower from Western Australia belong to two small genera of evergreen, in general small to medium-sized woody shrubs within the Myrtle family (Myrtaceae). Most have fine, needle-like, leathery, sometimes slightly aromatic leaves and lateral, showy bright colored white rose to pink flowers produced in profusion. All are good pot or container plants for any fertile, humus-rich, slightly sandy to rocky, lime-free soil in a sunny spot throughout the year with a winter minimum of some 10°C and reduced watering.
Sow seeds flat on top of any rich, sandy soil at some 20°C. Do not cover seeds with soil. Keep pots always moist from beneath and sunny until germination starts, then keep soil drier.
All are of USDA climate zone 11.
