Hippeastrum glaucescens

40 (60)cm, is a rarely cultivated species from Brazil with variable, either mid-green or glaucous-green leaves and mid-sized pale red and green flowers. The original species' description was based on specimens with glaucous leaves, however, this is not a stable trait and several wild populations show pure mid-green leaves. Easily grown in any humus rich, well drained soil in a partially shaded (summer) to sunny (winter) spot. During dormancy keep tubers drier and at a minimum of some 15°C throughout the year. Hippeastrum glaucescens is self-sterile similar to most Hippeastrum species, i.e. two different clones are needed for successful pollination. Please keep our clone numbers for your future reference!
