Bowiea volubilis ssp. volubilis (Climbing Onion)

200 (400)cm, Climbing Onion is a bulbous species from South and East Africa. It produces a green spherical bulb which is hold above the ground, and annual twining shoots with thread-like leaves in spring. Easily grown in any rich, well drained substrate in sunny spot. During dormancy in winter keep bulbs completely dry at a minimum of some 15°C. Seeds are from an overall smaller form, which was formerly known as a separate species, Bowiea kilimandscharica. VI-VIII.
