Ficus auriculata (Himalaya Fig Tree)

2 (5)m, Himalaya Fig Tree or Elephant Ear Fig is a showy semi evergreen and semi winter hardy tall shrub to small tree with very large, oval leaves and large, dark purplish red fruits born on the stem. These have a dark purplish-red flesh with a slightly bitter, pineapple-strawberry taste. Fruits are edible after being cooked and can be prepared into preserves an relishes. Easily grown in any rich, well drained substrate in containers in cooler climates with reduced watering in winter and a minimum of some 5°C. VII-IX.
