Smilax herbacea (Smooth Carrion Flower)

150 (250)cm, Smooth Carrion Flower from thickets and woods in North America is a herbaceous, climbing vine with a perennial root. Unlike other species it has smooth stems without any thorns. Plants are either male or female, the latter produce a dense globe of yellowish green flowers followed by most ornamental dark blue berries in late summer and autumn. For any humus rich, well drained soil in a partially shaded to sunny spot. Plant with a climbing aid. V-VI.
