* Alan Galloway had a most valuable knowlegde on the genera Amorphophallus and Typhonium which he had acquired on uncountable expeditions to Asia over the past decades. With his relentless work on these genera, many new species were brought to light for science. His horticultural skills and his own collections have saved several species from extinction and they are now being grown and enjoyed by many enthusiasts worldwide. And we are very thankful to have met him in person, and that we could share unforgettable moments and experiences on several excursions to Indochina.
His honest and straight forward personality made him a very pleasant person you enjoyed to talk to and to be with. He was an openly minded person, who gave his opinion without insisting on too much diplomacy. Alan always took care of others, and he helped out wherever he could.
We will miss him a lot as a very knowledgeable plant nut and as a very good friend whom we were fortunate to get to know more than 17 years ago.
Our thoughts are with his family and friends.

** Rachel and her husband Rodney (Rod) Saunders were murdered during a seed collection trip in South Africa in early 2018. Their friendly and helpful personalities and immense knowledge of the South African flora will never be forgotten, and a part of their lifework will live on at Rareplants.eu
