180 (300)cm, Orange Mandrinette Hibiscus is a rare and endangered, usually evergreen wild species from the Mascarene island of La Réunion. Hibiscus igneus was formerly regarded a reddish orange color form of Hibiscus boryanus. Yet due to recent studies published in June 2025, it was separated from the latter and described as a new species, namely Hibiscus igneus. It has glossy dark green leaves and ornamental, bright orange-red flowers with a yellow center. Easily grown in any rich, well drained substrate in full sun throughout the year and reduced watering in winter at a minimum of 20°C. Seeds from all Hibiscus species in section Lilibiscus (e.g Hibiscus arnottianus, Hibiscus cooperi, Hibiscus denisonii, Hibiscus fragilis, Hibiscus genevii, etc. ) germinate unevenly over a period of several months. Keep pots in a warm spot and the soil slightlly moist until germination will occur. Offered seeds are from our own true-to-type and hand pollinated plants. Available are seeds from two distinct clones. Clone 1 is the one which has been offered by us in the past, wheres clone 2 is a more recently added second genetic line. However, morphologically both clones are more or less identical. VI-X. 10 seeds per package.
