Solanum habrochaites (Hairy Wild Tomato)

150 (400)cm, Hairy Wild Tomato (syn. Lycopersicon hirsutum) is native to Peru and southern parts of Ecuador. It makes long trailing shoots and its' sulphurous yellow flowers are followed by small, greenish edible fruits, each some 1cm in diameter. They have a sweet pulp inside and a slightly bitter skin and may be used as vegetables for cooking. This wild species may serve as well for breeding new green skinned tomato cultivars. For any rich, well dained soil in a sunny spot. Sow seeds flat in any rich, well drained substrate in pots in mid spring at some 20°C. Keep pots in a sunny spot. Transplant seedlings to the final spot in the garden after the last freezing nights by the end of spring to early summer. VI-IX.
