150 (200)cm, Cranberry Hibiscus (Hibiscus acetosella) is only know from cultivation and it probably is an old stabilized hybrid between violet flowering Sabdariffa radiata (syn. Hibiscus radiatus) as one parent and a yellow flowering second species, and not a hybrid of both yellow flowering Sabdariffa asper (syn. Hibiscus asper) and Sabdariffa surattensis (syn. Hibiscus surattensis), what is commonly believed. Sabdariffa acetosella is a woody perennial sub shrub with showy, dark maroon-red foliage and violet flowers throughout summer. Cooked young leaves are eaten as a vegetable in several parts of the world. For any rich, well drained substrate in a sunny spot throughout the year. In winter keep drier at a minimum of some 15°C.
