Puya coerulea var. monteroana100 (150)cm, similar to the species, yet this variety has much narrower, silvery-grey leaves in a dense basal rosette of up to 50cm in diameter. Unlike the species this variety makes a red-stemmed, unbranched or losely branching raceme with nicely contrasting, blackish purple, long tubular flowers. Puya coerulea var. monteroana ist a very fast growing Puya species and may reach flowering size after just three year under appropriate cultivation conditions.
