Australian Desert Rose or Cotton Shrubs are semiperennial to perennial woody shrubs in the mallow family (Malvaceae) native from subtropical and tropical regions. Most species have showy, bright colored cream, yellow or rose flowers above heart shaped to oblong leaves. They are easily grown in pots in any rich, well drained soil in full sun throughout the year. Keep drier and rather warm in winter at a minimum of some 15°C. Sow seeds in any well drained substrate, cover slightly with soil and keep pots in full sun at some 20°C throughout the year and soil always slightly moist from beneath. 10 seeds per package, if not stated differently. Gossypium sturtianum (Sturt's Desert Rose)150 (200)cm, Sturt's Desert Rose is an utmost beautiful, long lived, small woody shrub with eye-catching bright rose, pale pink to dark purple or rarely rosy-maroon flowers with a dark purplish-red throat above showy oval, slightly leathery, bluish-green leaves. This rare species is native of dryish soils in shrub lands and forests in central and northern Australia. It will grow well and flower freely as a pot plant. For any rich, well drained substrate in full sun throughout the year. In winter keep plants drier at a minimum of some 15°C. Our seeds are from a very colorful, rich pink flowering form.
