Mintbush is a genus with some 90 species native of Australia. They are either small woody sub shrubs or very tall, almost tree-like shrubs. In general mintbushes are very floriferous plants with numerous bright rose colored flowers which develop in spring or autumn. In most species the foliage is pleasantly aromatic as in related genera from the Mint family (Lamiaceae), such as Rosmarinus, Salvia, and Thymus. All Mintbusches are easily cultivated as pot or container plants in any fertile, humus-rich, well drained soil in a sunny spot throughout the year. In winter plants shall be kept drier at a minimum of some 15°C. Sow seeds flat in any humus-rich, slightly sandy, well drained substrate at some 20°C. Germination in this genus is irregular. After germination keep pots slightly drier and especially in winter in full sun. 20 seeds per package. |
