Water Mimosa and Australian Mimosa belong to a genus which is closely related to the real Mimosa (Mimosa spp.) and is similar in appearance with narrow, ornamental, feathered leaves which fold down when they are touched and re-open and unfold several minutes later. Makes nice bright yellow, small flower balls. A tropical genus from Latin and South America as well as South Asia and Australia for any humus-rich, very moist soil in a sunny spot at some 20°C throughout the year. Prior to sowing scarify seed (e.g. carefully scratch the seed coat with fine sandpaper) and soak them in luke warm water for some 48h. Sow the acacia-like seeds flat in any rich, well drained soil. Keep pots in a sunny spot and at a minimum of some 20°C. In winter reduce watering and keep plants always in full sun. Under cooler conditions and lack of light plants will shed most leaves and resprout in late spring with rising temperatures. 10 seeds per package. |
