Liquidambar (Amber Tree)

Amber Tree is a relict genus with few species native of North America, East Asia and southwestern Turkey and Rhodos (Greece). They are ornamental, tall deciduous trees with elegant, acer-like foliage turning vibrantly yellow, orange and red in autumn and pendulous round seed capsules. All Liquidambar species are easily grown in any rich, well drained soil in a preferably sunny spot.
Sow seeds flat in any rich, well drained soil and keep pots in a protected spot outside. Seeds require a prolonged cooling period prior to germination in late spring. Carefully transplant young plants to the final spot in the garden as soon as they are strong enough or in autumn after leaves have withered.
All are USDA Climate Zone 6.
