Rosmarinus (Rosemary)

Rosemary is a small genus with few species of strongly aromatic plants from the Mediterranean region. Most rosemary species have needle-like, leathery leaves and numerous white to sky-blue flowers. Fresh or dried leaves are widely used in numerous Mediterranean dishes. For any rich, well drained susbtrate in full sun throughout the year. Best grown as pot plants under frostfree conditions throughout the year. In milder regions plants may be grown outside in the garden with some good winter protection.
Sow flat in any well drained soil in pots in spring. Keep pots outside in a protected and sunny spot. Cool nights (close to freezing) and warmer daytime temperature will enhance the germination process.

It makes narrow, needle-like, leathery, slightly glossy, strongly aromatic leaves and numerous showy rich sky-blue flowers in late winter and spring. For any rich, well drained substrate in a sunny spot throughout the year. Give some good winter protection or grown in pots under frostfree conditions at a winter minimum of some 5°C with slightly reduced watering. II-V.
