Bomarea (Copihuito)

Salsilla or Copihuito are evergreen or deciduous climbers from woods from Central to South America. They are climbing vines covered with glossy, fresh to deep green leaves and most ornamental, bright colored pendulous terminal clusters with Alstroemeria like trumpet shaped flowers. They prefer a humus-rich, well drained soil in a sunny to partially shaded spot throughout the year. Plants require a climbing aid. Keep plants drier in winter at a minimum of some 10°C.
Sow flat in any rich, humus-based, well drained soil at some 25°C in a partially shaded spot. Keep soil always slightly moist until germination occurs, which may take up to six months.
All are USDA Climate Zone 11.
