Chenopodium (Quinoa)

Quinoa has been cultivated for several thousand years in the Andean region as an important source for carbohydrates, especially at higher elevations where little else can be grown. It is an annual plant with edible leaves and uncountable small seeds. Before being cooked, seeds have to be soaked and washed several times to remove bitter and slightly toxic saponins from the seed shell. Additionally, boiling water should be replaced at least once. For any rich, well drained soil in full sun and sufficient watering in summer at a minimum of some 20°C. In colder regions best grown under glass. Our seeds are directly imported from Peru and are GMO free - and so is our entire seed stock!
Sow seeds flat in any rich, well drained soil in mid spring at some 20°C.
