Ammocharis, Brunsvigia, Crossyne and Paintbrush Lilies (Haemanthus spp.) are some of the most well-known plants from South Africa and highly valued for their sometimes spectacular flower display. They are summer or winter dormant perennial bulbous plants and easily grown in any rich, very well drained substrate in a sunny spot as long as they are in leaf. During dormancy greatly reduce or stop watering and keep plants at a minimum of some 15°C. Most species have recalcitrant seeds, which can be stored for a very short time only. Seeds will be shipped in slightly moist kitchen towl and may well start to germinate during transport. They have to be sown upon receipt. Sow seed flat in any humus rich, well drained substrate. Cover seeds very slightly with soil and keep pots at some 25°C in a sunny to partially shaded spot. 3 seeds per package. |
