Welsh Poppy is the only European member of this strictly East Asian and Himalayan genus. It is a herbaceous perennial and occurs in fresh soils in open spots in woods. It makes several bright yellow flowers above light green foliage in early summer. Easily cultivated in any humus rich, well drained, preferably slightly moist soil in a partially shaded spot. Sow seeds flat on any humus rich, well drained, slightly moist soil, do not cover seeds. Keep pots in a partially shaded, protected spot outside. Carefully transplant the fleshy rhizomes in mid or late summer as soon as plants go dormant. All are USDA Climate Zone 6. 50 seeds per package. |
