Florida Fishpoison Tree or Jamaican Dogwood and the related Red Wisteria Tree are showy floriferous perennial woody, deciduous shrubs from southern Northern America (Piscidia piscipula in Florida, USA) to South America. They have pinnately compound leaves and axillary or terminal clusters of showy flowers. Easily grown as pot plants in any rich, well drained soil in a sunny spot throughout the year. Keep plants drier in winter at a minimum of some 10°C. Prior to sowing scarify seed (e.g. carefully scratch the seed coat with fine sandpaper) and soak them in luke warm water for some 48h. Sow flat at some 20°C in any leafy and sandy, well drained soil in a sunny spot throughout the year. 7 seeds per package. |

It has alternate and pinnately compound leaves and axillary clusters of showy white flowers tinged with pink and green, before the new leaves emerge in spring. After flowering large winged seedpods are formed. Extracts from the bark, roots, twigs and leaves have been used by indigenous tribes to sedate fish for an easier catch.
