Black Bryony belongs to a monotypic genus with only one species. It is a fully winterhardy herbaceous perennial with large, perennial underground storage rhizomes from which fast growing annual vines emerge in spring. Tamus communis has only small, inconspicuous yellowish-green flowers, but it is an excellent foliage vine for its' heart-shaped, glossy leaves and bears numerous showy, bright red berries in late summer. It will easily grow in any rich, yet well drained soil in full sun to partial shade in the open garden. A very easy and adoptable species. Sow from autumn to late spring in any rather sandy soil in a partially shaded place. Will germinate in early summer. Transplant dormant rhizomes in either autumn or early spring. Please note, that all parts are poisonous if swollen. All are USDA Climate Zone 6. Price is given per package (10 seeds) or per dormant flowering-sized rhizome (length in cm). Note: All rhizomes are available for a delivery within Europe only ! Seeds are shipped worldwide. |
