Grassy Bells are close to the real bellflowers (Campanula) and it is a genus with only few, perennial species. Make white to blue flowers in profusion. Suited for any rich, well drained, rocky soils in a sunny spot. Excellent in the rock garden. Shepherd's Scabious and Phyteuma or Rampions are small genera with the bellflower family (Campanulaceae) and are mostly perennials from open spots in woods and in meadows in the northern hemisphere. They make upright growing annual stalks crowned by dense, usually cylindrical (in Phyteuma) to flattend round (in Jasione) white, rose, lavender to sky-blue inflorescences. All are easily grown in any humus rich, well drained soil in a sunny to partially shaded spot. Sow fine seeds on any rich, well drained soil, do not cover seeds with soil and keep pots outside in a protected spot. Carefully transplant young plants to the final spot in the garden as soon as they are strong enough. All are USDA Climate Zone 6. 40 seeds per package. |
