Swallow Worts are native from Europe, the Mediterranean to eastern Asia. They make more or less climbing, herbaceous vines from a perennial rootstock with axillary clusters of small star like flowers followed by seed pods with small narrow seeds on long, silk like parachutes. Plants require a climbing aid. For any rich, well drained soil in a sunny to partially shaded spot. Sow seeds flat at some 20°C to 25°C in any rich, well drained soil. Transplant seedlings in autumn after leaves have yellowed. Note: All species within the family of Asclepiadaceae contain a poisonous milk sap! All are USDA Climate Zone 6. 10 seeds per package. |
