South African Foxglove Sesame is a small subtropical genus from South Africa and is closely related to the real Sesame (Sesamum spp.) within the unicorn plant family (Pedaliaceae). Plants have most ornamental, foxglove-like trumpet flowers in dark reddish to lilac shades on upright stems with smoothly pubescent dark green leaves. Plants are fast growing annuals to semiperennials for any rich, well drained soil in a sunny spot. Keep pot plants drier in winter at a minimum of some 15°C in full sun. Sow seeds flat in any fertile, well drained soil in a sunny spot at a minimum of some 20°C. Grow as perennial pot plants or as annuals, transplant seedlings to the open garden in early summer. 20 seeds per package. |
