Milkweeds or Silkweeds have annual flowering stems from perennial underground rhizomes. They make floriferous, honey scented umbels, and are rather robust perennials. For any humus rich, sandy or rocky soil in full sun to partial shade. The species offered here are fully hardy in Central Europe. Sow at some 15°C from late summer to early spring in any very well drained soil, so that the soil will never stay too wet. Seeds in most species will require a prolonged cold period, and if sown in summer, they may not germinate until spring the following year. Transplant rhizomes about 15 cm deep after stems have died down in autumn. Note: All parts are poisonous if ingested, the milk sap may cause severe skin irritations and eye burns. All are USDA Climate Zone 7. 10 seeds per package. |
