Leptospermum (Tea Tree) & Thryptomene (Camphor Tea Shrub)

Tea Trees (Leptospermum spp.) and Camphor Tea Shrubs (Thryptomene spp.) are evergreen, small, medium-sized to talll woody shrubs from the Myrtle family (Myrtaceae) with leathery, small oval to linear, usually aromatic leaves and numerous small white, pink to rosy-red flowers. Most species are native of Australia. All are excellent pot plants for any fertile, humus-rich, slightly sandy to rocky substrate soil in a sunny spot throughout the year with a winter minimum of some 10°C and reduced watering. Too large plants can be pruned back in spring. Sow fine seeds flat on top of any rich, sandy soil at some 20°C. Cover seeds very slightly with soil only. Keep pots always moist from beneath and sunny until germination starts, then keep soil drier. All are of USDA climate zone 11. 20 seeds per package. |
