140 (200)cm, Sleepy Hibiscus is a perennial species with showy mauve, trumpet shaped flowers with a small dark violet throat above yellowish pubescent leaves. It is native of mostly marshy areas in Florida, Central America, the Caribbean and Hawaii. For any rich, well drained substrate in a sunny spot throughout the year. In winter keep plants at a minimum of some 20°C. Germination in this species occurs unevenly over several weeks to months. The true species is rarely seen in cultivation, and what is offered as Hibiscus furcellatus is mostly Hibiscus radiatus, which is a distinct species. Our seeds are from true to type Hawaiian plants. Hawaiian specimens are even rarer than continental forms in cultivation and differ in several aspects from the nominal species.
