40 (80)cm, Alonsoa meridionalis is an annual, medium tall species from western Mexico to western Chile and produces terminal spikes with showy bright orange flowers with a somewhat darker inner eye. It is quite variable concerning its leaf shape and thus it was applied several synonyms, e. g. Alonsoa incisifolia, Alonsoa procumbens, and Alonsoa warscewiczii. Easily grown in any rich, well drained soil in a sunny spot. Preferably sow the small seeds directly to the ground after the last freezing nights end of spring. V-VII. |
