Sechium edule (Chayote)

4 (10)m, Chayote is a vigorous perennial vine from Central America (Mexico) with tasty, apple-sized to orange-sized, single-seeded, viviparous fruits with a taste similar to Kohlrabi. These can be eaten either raw in salads or be baked and fried as a vegetable. Cut the fruit into halves, remove the single large, soft seed in the center and prepare fruits as preferred. For any rich, well drained soil in an always sunny and warm spot, keep drier in winter at a minimum of some 15°C. Two different types are available: an elongated spiny type cultivated on the Canary islands and a superior form with a smooth, pale green skin without any spines from a Thailand strain.
Fruits are freshly harvested before dispatch, please allow a dispatch time of up to 4 weeks!
