60cm, an unidentified perennial Calandrinia species from coastal areas in the Coquimbo region, Chile. It is allied to Calandrinia spectabilis and differs by highly succulent, long, bluish-green, much narrower leaves. It produces a tall, loosely branching, inflorescence with rich magenta flowers, each some 2cm in diameter. Easily grown in any rich, very well drained soil. In winter keep plants in full sun and carefully water. Sow very fine seeds on top of any rich, well drained substrate in pots in mid spring at some 20°C. Do not cover seeds with soil and place pots in a sunny spot. It is fast growing and can be grown as an annual. V-VII. |
