Mimosa (Sensitive Plant) & Neptunia (Water Mimosa)

Sensitive Plants or Mimosa and Water Mimosa belong to broad genera of perennials, semi woody subshrubs to small trees from the Americas, Asia and Australia. They usually have axillary rose or yellow flower buds and ornamental feathered leaves. Several species show a rapid movement and fold their feathered leaves when touched, hurt or exposed to heat. A couple of species (such as Mimosa tenuiflora, syn. Mimosa hostilis) contain psychoactive substances and have been used by Indian tribes for ceremonies. All species are easily grown in any rich, well drained soil in a sunny spot. Keep perennial species in pots at a minimum of some 20°C in full sun throughout the year. Sow in pots in any rich, well drained soil in early spring under glass at a minimum of some 20°C throughout the year. Transplant plants grown as annuals (e.g. Mimosa pudica) to the garden after the last freezing nights fom late spring to early summer. 10 seeds per package. |
