Lavender are evergreen, perennial and sometimes short woody shrubs from the Mediterranean and Macaronesia. Most lavender species are grown for their aromatic foliage or their beautiful flower heads. Several species are winterhardy in a sunny and protected position in the garden in any well drained, rather rocky or sandy soil. These species are marked below with USDA climate zone 6. Species from the Canary islands are not winterhardy, keep these in pots and always frostfree at a minimum of some 10°C in winter with careful watering. Sow seeds flat from autumn to summer at some 20°C on any well drained, rather sandy soil. Keep pots sunny and transplant seedlings as soon as they are strong enough. 30 seeds per package. |
