Lactuca (Wild Lettuce)

Wild Lettuce is a broad genus of annual, biannual or perennial species from usually temperate regions. Most species have a weedy habit, whereas Lactuca palmensis endemic of upper regions of the island of La Palma is a non-weedy, dwarf, strongly branching perennial with beautiful, small bright lilac-pink flowers. For any rich, well drained, rocky soil in full sun throughout the year. Keep plants drier in winter in full sun and at a minimum of some 10°C.
Sow small seeds flat on any very well drained, rock-sandy soil. Slightly cover seeds with soil and place pots in a sunny spot. Keep seedlings only slightly moist from beneath and carefully transplant after the second pair of leaves.
