Urtica (Stinging Nettle)

Stinging Nettles are not only known for their stining hairs, but several species are used for their medical properties. Fresh young leaves and shoots can be used cooked as a vegetable. Always wear protecting gloves, when handling these plants! Easily grown in and humus rich, slightly moist soil in partial shade to full sun.
Sow flat on any humus rich, well drained soil in pots outside. Only slightly cover seeds and keep soil always moist from beneath. Carefully transplant the rootstock to the garden as soon as leaves start to wither and plants go dormant in summer to early autumn.
All are USDA Climate Zone 6.
