Retama (Retama Broom)

Retama Brooms belong to a small plant genus from coastal areas of North Africa and the Canary Islands, where they ocurr in dry shrub formations. All are easily grown in containers in any rich, well drained susbtrate in a sunny spot throughout the year. In winter keep plants slightly drier at a minimum of some 5°C.
Prior to sowing scarify seed (e.g. carefully scratch the seed coat with fine sandpaper) and soak them in luke warm water for some 48h. Sow at a minimum of some 15°C in any sandy to rocky soil. Keep dry and cool in winter in a sunny spot.
All are USDA Climate Zone 10.

200 (300)cm, Yellow Bridal Broom is a tall woody shrub from the western Mediterranean with upright hold to arching, fine branches with unconspicuous leaves and numerous yellow flowers. For any rich, well drained susbtrate in full sun throughout the year and a winter minimum of some 5°C with slightly reduced watering. VI-VII.
