Phytolacca (Pokeberries) & Rivina (Bloodberry)

Inkeberries, Pokeberries, Pigeonberries and Bloodberries make fast growing annual shoots from a perennial rootstock. Several species form impressively tall stems within a single growing season. Shoots are covered with large fresh green to yellowish-green leaves and showy upright or pendulous racemes with white to rose flowers followed by most ornamental deep violet to almost black (Phytolacca spp.), respectively bright red (Rivina humilis) berries on sometimes nicely constrasting reddish stems. Easily grown in any rich, well drained soil in a partially shaded spot. The rootstock of the slightly more tender Rivina humilis needs some good winter protection (i.e. a dry mulch layer).
Seeds of winterhardy species are sowed flat from autumn to mid spring in any rich soil in a partially shaded to sunny spot outside. Transplant fleshy rhizomes in autumn as soon as foliage yellows.
All are USDA Climate Zone 6.
20 seeds per package.

Beside these winterhardy Phytolacca species we offer a tropical member (Ombú Tree) as well.
