Brugmansia (Angel's Trumpet) & Datura (Thorn Apple)

Angel's Trumpets belong to a small genus of some seven perennial, tall shrub-like species from South America, whereas the closely related Thorn Apples, Jimson Weeds, or Devil's Weeds belong to a small genus of some nine mostly annual to biannual and fast growing species which are native from south-western USA to Mexico. All have showy, trumpet-like, mostly very sweetly fragrant flowers above usually large ornamental foliage. All species are easily grown in any rich, well drained soil in a sunny spot. Keep perennial species in pots at a minimum of some 15°C and in full sun throughout the year.
Sow seeds in pots in any rich, well drained soil preferably in spring under glass at a minimum of some 20°C. Transplant annuals to the garden after the last freezing nights fom late spring to early summer. Alternatively sow annual Datura species directly to the ground towards the end of spring.
10 large seeds per package (Brugmansia spp.), respectively 20 seeds per package (Datura spp.).

Brugmansia versicolor (White Angel Trumpet)

3 (5)m, White Angel Trumpet is a tall, semi-woody shrub from South America where it is extinct in the wild. It produces showy, very large (up to 40 cm in length, the largest in the genus!), pendulous, pure white flower trumpets, which stay either white (our plants) or mature to peach, pink, or apricot. Flowers are are heavily sweet scented at night. Fruits are very thin and elongated, in comparison to fusiform (spindle shaped) fruits in Brugmansia insignis, Brugmansia suaveolens, and Brugmansia x candida, respectively to ovoid fruits in Brugmansia arborea. Our seeds are from pure white flowering plants with up to 25cm long fruits. In cultivation it prefers a humus rich, freely draining soil and a fresh spot at a winter minimum of some 15°C. Note: seeds from this species had been offered as Brugmansia suaveolens in the past, yet after some more research our plants have finally been correctly identified as Brugmansia versicolor. II-XI.
