Christmas Box are rarely cultivated, evergreen dwarf shrubs from open spots in woods in eastern Asia. All Sarcococca species have ornamental dark green, slightly glossy leaves and axillary white flowers followed by decorative bright red fruits in summer and autumn. All are easily grown in any humus rich, well drained soil in partial shade. Sow seeds flat in any rich, well drained soil and keep pots outside in a protected spot. Seeds require a prolonged cooling period prior to germination in late spring. Carefully transplant young plants to the final spot in the garden as soon as they are strong enough. All are USDA Climate Zone 6. 7 seeds per package. |
