Mentha (Canary Mint)

Canary Mint, an aromatic and fragrant perennial for any well drained, slightly moist soil in full sun. Easily cultivated. Small attractive rose flowers in dense terminal spikes.
Sow flat on any well drained soil from autumn to early summer. Do not cover seeds, transplant from summer to autumn.
All are USDA Climate Zone 8.

100cm, Canary populations of this mint related to the Mentha longifolia complex. La Palma plants (eastern ridge of the Caldera de Taburiente, 1500m) have shorter and rather pale rose inflorescences whereas those from Gran Canaria (east of Roque Grande, Los Marteles, 950m) are taller and have longer, rich lilac pink inflorescences. Easily cultivated in any rich, well drained soil in a sunny spot. Plants from both populations are fully winter hardy in Central Europe. VI-VIII.

30cm, Teide Mint, a fragrant variety native of wet places in the Cañadas crater on Tenerife. Makes shorter stems and strongly pubescent, silvery green foliage. Compact spikes with bright rose flowers. For any well drained, rocky, slightly wet soil in a sunny spot. winter hardy in Central Europe in a protected, sunny spot, and excellent pot plant for the winter cold greenhouse or unheated wintergarden.
