Several Rubus species make edible berries in terminal clusters on annual to perennial prickly stems with compound leaves. Fruits are eaten fresh or prepared as jam, jelly, syrup, or wine. They are rich in vitamins (A, B and C). The dried leaves are used in teas for their medicinal properties. All species are easily cultivated in any rich, well drained soil in a sunny to partially shaded spot. Sow seeds flat in any humus rich, sandy soil.
