Flame Lilies are about 12 species from subtropical to tropical regions in South Africa to Asia. The formerly separate genus Littonia has now been included in Gloriosa. All are vines with annual to biannual shoots from a perennial rootstock. They are fast growing plants with showy flowers. For any humus-rich, well drained substrate in a sunny (winter) to partially shaded (summer) spot. Plants require a climbing aid. During dormanc keep the rootstock rather dry at a minimum of some 15°C. Sow seeds flat in any humus rich, well drained soil at some 25°C. Keep seedlings sunny, especially in winter months. 10 seeds per package. |
