5 (7)m, a still rarely known and cultivated, medium tall species from northwestern Borneo (Sarawak, Malaysia) with partly reddish tinged and spotted, rather thin pseudostems and ornamental lush foliage. Under good conditions it will reach flowering size within 2 years after sowing. For us (grown in the open ground in a subtropical climate) it flowered within 14 months. Plants are self-fertile, though only few miniature bananas will be produced. Fruits have a typical banana-smell at maturity but are inedible due to numerous black seeds and few fruit pulp only. Easily grown in any rich soil with sufficient moisture. In winter keep at a minimum of 15°C. VIII-II. 7 seeds per package.
