50 (70)cm, Butterfly Amaryllis is an endangered species in its habitat in southern Brazil, yet well established in cultivation. However, most so-called Hippeastrum papilio in cultivation are hybrids with some other species. We offer the true-to-type species with greenish-white petals with large and broad wine-red streaks. It is a semi-evergreen species with a large tuber and easily grown in any humus rich, well drained soil in a partially shaded (summer) to sunny (winter) spot. During dormancy keep tubers drier and at a minimum of some 15°C throughout the year. Hippeastrum papilio is either selfsterile or - much more rarely - selffertile. Our seeds are from a selffertile clone. III-IV. 10 seeds per package.
